Two-Sided Estimates of the Solution Set for the Reaction–Diffusion Problem with Uncertain Data

2009

We consider linear reaction–diffusion problems with mixed Dirichlet–Neumann–Robin conditions. The diffusion matrix, reaction coefficient, and the coefficient in the Robin boundary condition are defined with an uncertainty which allow bounded variations around some given mean values. A solution to such a problem cannot be exactly determined (it is a function in the set of “possible solutions” formed by generalized solutions related to possible data). The problem is to find parameters of this set. In this paper, we show that computable lower and upper bounds of the diameter (or radius) of the set can be expressed throughout problem data and parameters that regulate the indeterminacy range. La città di Alphabet. Architettura per prosumers.

2021

Settore ICAR/14 - Composizione Architettonica E UrbanaTaking into account some salient aspects of the conception production and opposition to the Toronto Quayside project by Sidewalk labs the article discusses the influence of urban data-digital infrastructures on the architectural design of the house and the neighbourhood. The extension of remote control on the practices of everyday life in the domestic space emphasized by the daily Covid 19 pandemic constitutes a useful advertising reference and an accelerator for the planetary oligopolists of urban data such as Alphabet. The fusion of the new emblems of techno-emancipation and sustainability in experimental hypotheses that can be built both in whole or in parts draws a new horizon in which the domestic space generates a technological profit and the inhabitants are transformed into producers. From a historical perspective our reality eclipses the idea of technology as an anonymous contribution to collective progress demonstrated by Giedion in Mechanization takes command and subverts the allegorical value assigned by the Architecture of the Seventies to the relational utopias of the Web Stem and Cluster.

A Frequency-based Approach for Features Fusion in Fingerprint and Iris Multimodal Biometric Identification Systems

2010

The basic aim of a biometric identification system is to discriminate automatically between subjects in a reliable and dependable way, according to a specific-target application. Multimodal biometric identification systems aim to fuse two or more physical or behavioral traits to provide optimal False Acceptance Rate (FAR) and False Rejection Rate (FRR), thus improving system accuracy and dependability. In this paper, an innovative multimodal biometric identification system based on iris and fingerprint traits is proposed. The paper is a state-of-the-art advancement of multibiometrics, offering an innovative perspective on features fusion. In greater detail, a frequency-based approach result…

Noise Filtering Using Edge-Driven Adaptive Anisotropic Diffusion

2008

This paper presents a method aimed to noise removal in MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging). We propose an improvement of Perona and Malik's anisotropic diffusion filter. In our schema, the diffusion equation of the filter has been modified to take into account the edges direction, This allows the filter to blur uniform areas, while it better preserves the edges. Both quantitative and qualitative evaluation is presented and the results are compared with other methods.

In vitro evaluation of the antibacterial activity of cured dentin/enamel adhesive incorporating the antimicrobial agent MDPB

2010

The aim of this study was to investigate in vitro the antibacterial effect of a dentin/enamel adhesive containing MDPB (Clearfil Protect Bond) after curing and to compare it with an adhesive not containing MDPB (Clearfil SE Bond). The antibacterial effect of the cured adhesives was tested on Enterococcus faecalis by the evaluation of growth inhibition in a 48-h microplate direct contact test (DCT). The presence of antibacterial activity due to soluble components was also investigated by an agar diffusion test (ADT) performed with the adhesives cured on the surface of dentin disks. In the DCT, both the tested materials showed complete inhibition of bacterial growth until the 7-h reading, reg…

Thalamic parcellation for target identification in trans-cranial MR-guided Focused UltraSound (tcMRgFUS) thalamotomies: a preliminary probabilistc tr…

2018

Background: Trans-cranial MR-guided Focused UltraSound (tcMRgFUS) allows a neurofunctional exploration of thalamic nuclei to confirm and optimize the target before inducing a permanent brain lesion. However, the choice of the target is based on stereotactic coordinates that do not take into account the anatomical variability of each single patient. Thus, the optimization of the treatment target is based on the patient's feedback during lower power sonications. The aim of this work is to retrospectively evaluate the possible role of thalamic parcellation for the identification of the intermediate ventral nucleus (VIM) in patients undergoing tcMRgFUS. Materials and Methods: A 1.5T MR scanner …

New trends in culinary tourism - regional (Silesian) fusion cuisine

2020

This article concerns regional cuisine, mainly new ways of its presentation taking into account personal visions the preparation of certain dishes. Today, in culinary tourism there is a growing interest in regional dishes in fusion versions. The author discusses the characteristics of the regional and fusion cuisine, identifies selected Silesian dishes most often modified by chefs, presents the typology of restaurants that offer regional specialities in modern versions. The trend concerning modernized versions of regional specialities is constantly growing, as evidenced by, among others, an increasing number of restaurants specialized in such “food creations”. They are treated as a culinary…

Kulebele, śląski dog i gumiklejzy w pudełku, czyli o kuchni śląskiej w nowych odsłonach

2021

The article is devoted to Silesian cuisine which has recently become the subject of various activities focused on new ways of presenting it and reflecting directly the current global trends in gastronomy. Using two characteristic phenomena of street food and fusion cuisine, the author shows that specific dishes of Silesian cuisine have been reinvented thanks to the individual chefs’ visions. The transformation processes that have been taking place recently in the field of regional cuisines are most clearly visible in gastronomic establishments, where you can taste “old” dishes with new flavours and in new arrangements, often very surprising, such as hajer (rye flour tortilla with beef roula…
